Last month, it was revealed that Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry were set to join the cast of Doctor Who for its new season.

Who bosses have remained tight-lipped about the nature of Stephen and Lenny’s characters, but they are expected to play prominent roles in the much-anticipated new series.

Speaking about his guest stint Stephen said: ‘Short of being picked for a British space exploration programme and I readily concede that I’m past the age where I’d be considered (if I was ever the right age for such a posting) – then being in an episode of Doctor Who will certainly do as a very sweet second-place excitement.’

Lenny added: ‘It was absolutely brilliant to be welcomed into the fantastical world of Doctor Who.

‘The nearest I have been to the TARDIS was when I played the Caribbean Doctor in the Lenny Henry Show , so as a life-long (hiding behind the sofa type) Doctor Who fan this is a very special moment for me.’

The BBC also confirmed that Goran Višnjić and Robert Glenister will also join the thirteenth Time Lord when the show returns in early 2020.

Ahead of the show’s first episode which is now just days away, fans were given a glimpse of what is to come in an epic new trailer.

The teaser hinted that there could be danger on the horizon for the Time Lady, as she warned of a ‘big serious crisis.’

Amongst a montage of tears, drama and aliens, the Doctor also feared ‘something is coming for her.’

while showrunner Chris Chibnall previously said he would love to see Jodie’s Doctor battle The Cybermen, and they feature prominently in the trailer.

He said: ‘I really wanted to see Jodie against the Cybermen, there are certain monsters you want to see a Doctor go up against.’

Doctor Who will return to BBC One on New Year’s Day at 6:55pm.
